On September 18th, 2017 Buddy Backpacker and his family completed the 3050 mile Continental Divide Trail. This completed a long journey that has spanned almost 8000 miles and last more than 5 years.  Buddy and Crew began hiking in April of 2016 at the Crazy Cook Monument on the Mexico border. They hiked almost 2000 miles in 2016, ending that part of their trip at Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. In 2017 the trio completed the last 1000+ miles southbound from Canada from July through September 18th when they finished back at Old Faithful. At 9 years old Buddy...

We have completed all 2686 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. At age 6, Buddy is now the youngest person to hike the entire trail in one year. #GoBuddy If you have been following along with our journey on Facebook, you will know that we put in a significant amount of miles during the second half of our trip. This is part of the reason why our wonderful website has been neglected for so long.   It's hard for me to dedicate even a few precious town hours to sitting in front of the computer blogging when all I want is a full-on...

Meeting people like Mr & Mrs Dinsmore restores my faith in people and puts us right back into the thru hiker life we had been missing. Being off trail this past week was really tough for us, we hadn't planned it and although it was fun we just want to keep hiking. We picked up some resupply packages we had sent there and stayed the night at the Dinsmores, along with 15-20 other hikers. The next morning we went over to the store and had breakfast with everyone.  We were all given a ride back to the trail by a nice, local...

It's the first week in August and we're almost half way. That's not a great pace for people who started in April. But, compared to our pace on the Appalachian Trail we are killing it! We know we need to hurry up, stop taking so many zeros and get in more miles each day. I enjoy sleeping in, not getting out by 5-6am, but if we're going to get in more miles every day we just have to start getting up and out earlier. The climb out of Belden with one pound burger bellies was difficult. It is a long, steady, steep climb...

Our ride from Truckee dropped us off mid-afternoon on a beautiful, sunny day. People were everywhere, it was a completely different site than the night before. We got back out on the trail, planning to go 7.3 miles north to the Peter Grubb Hut that night. When we arrived at the Hut we expected it to be similar to the shelters found on the Appalachian Trail. This was very different. It was a full cabin- two stories high, several rooms, a fire place and a bunch of pre cut firewood. It looked like they were in the middle of a roof replacement though half of it...
