Appalachian Trail -

Junkers Joint

Today we only hiked five miles so we could end in Fayettville and get to those showers! Since we finished early we headed to Starbucks for a few hours to use their internet. I called Junker around 4pm and we headed the few miles to his place. He lives right in the park that we’re hiking through, this was perfect. We arrived and weren’t sure at all what to expect. As we walked up to the door we were greeted by Sandy who poked her head out and called for us to come right in. We opened the door and were greeted by the nicest people you’d ever want to meet.

Bob and Sandy live in this great little house with a great big fireplace, extra beds and an amazing shower. Once we all took showers and cooked our food as we settled into the living room to hear the fantastic stories they had to share. Bob has been running a hiker shuttling service for many years down here in Pennsylvania and has hiked hundreds and thousands of miles all over the United States. His wife Sandy is a nurse and a pastor in their church. The two of them have led amazing lives and opened their home up to hundreds of people over the years. These are the kind of people you remember for the rest of your life, the ones whose stories really touch your heart and inspire you. It’s great here, we wish we never had to leave and we don’t for a few days because they have invited us to stay as long as we would like. One more night wouldn’t hurt.
