To say that our time at Amicalola Falls Lodge was a prefect way to celebrate after getting to Springer would be a gross understatement. It was beyond perfect, we couldn’t have had a better time and it was exactly what the boys needed after pulling such big miles so many days in a row. The first morning we were there we went to town on the breakfast buffet and Buddy became friends with almost every pretty girl on the staff at the hotel. He had the girl from behind the desk walking him around the hotel explaining all the decorations...

Today is the day! The day we have been working for on this southern half of our adventure. We are heading out today extra early because although it is going to be a really exciting day, it’s also going to be a long day. Buddy and Dion are tying their biggest day in Maine today and doing 22 miles. We set out extra early at 7am after waking up to the most beautiful sunrise we have seen on the trail. The day was long, but filled with excitement. I stopped and bought Buddy cupcakes for the middle of the day...

Last night we had the extreme privilege of getting to meet the wonderful Chris Hall who owns www.americantrekkingpoles.com and contacted us to let us know that he had made and wanted to give Buddy his very own pair of ultra lightweight bamboo hiking poles. Today is going to be another big day, the weather is clear and spirits are high as we are getting closer! Yesterday they did 18 miles from Carter Gap Shelter to Blue Ridge Gap. They said the terrain was easy and their pace was steady as there weren’t any big changes in elevation yesterday. Today they headed out around the usual 8am start time to do 19.8 miles to Indian Grave Gap. It’s an ambitious day, but I think they will do great! I am in Hiawassee today and I am really trying to soak it all in, part of...

Well as of right now things are back on track and we are doing great! Everyone has completely recovered from the horrible virus that plagued us for days. We spent the night before last in Franklin NC to dry out from 11 miles in the relentless rain that day. We set out early, by our standards at least, at 8am and planned to meet at the Carter Gap shelter. I arrived around 4 after a short 4.5 mile hike in from where I left the car at Mooney Gap. After setting up our stuff I was thankful that I brought...
