Pacific Crest Trail -

We have completed all 2686 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. At age 6, Buddy is now the youngest person to hike the entire trail in one year. #GoBuddy If you have been following along with our journey on Facebook, you will know that we put in a significant amount of miles during the second half of our trip. This is part of the reason why our wonderful website has been neglected for so long. It's hard for me to dedicate even a few precious town hours to sitting in front of the computer blogging when all I want is a full-on food...

It's the first week in August and we're almost half way. That's not a great pace for people who started in April. But, compared to our pace on the Appalachian Trail we are killing it! We know we need to hurry up, stop taking so many zeros and get in more miles each day. I enjoy sleeping in, not getting out by 5-6am, but if we're going to get in more miles every day we just have to start getting up and out earlier. The climb out of Belden with one pound burger bellies was difficult. It is a long, steady, steep climb...

Our ride from Truckee dropped us off mid-afternoon on a beautiful, sunny day. People were everywhere, it was a completely different site than the night before. We got back out on the trail, planning to go 7.3 miles north to the Peter Grubb Hut that night. When we arrived at the Hut we expected it to be similar to the shelters found on the Appalachian Trail. This was very different. It was a full cabin- two stories high, several rooms, a fire place and a bunch of pre cut firewood. It looked like they were in the middle of a roof replacement though and half of it...

After leaving Mammoth Lakes we traveled through Tuolumne Meadows. We had a lot of rain and strong winds during these next five and half days. As we headed north we came to Highway 108, down the road a few miles was Kennedy Meadows North Resort. Guthook’s guide showed that although they had hot showers and a small restaurant, our resupply options would be very limited here. While hiking to the road we decided that we would test our luck and try to hitch 30 miles in the other direction down to Bridgeport, a much larger town with two grocery stores....

Every step between Bishop and Red’s Meadow was absolutely perfect. Although there were many miles of steep climbing from one pass to the next, it was incredible and we would absolutely do this section again. This is what we’ve been hiking toward. Our pace would not beat any speed record through this area but we made it in 8 days back over Kearsarge Pass and over to Red’s Meadow to get off the trail in Mammoth Lakes for another resupply. The first day back on the trail after 6 days off, as you would imagine, was pretty difficult. We were carrying...
