Pacific Crest Trail -

After leaving Mammoth Lakes we traveled through Tuolumne Meadows. The weather was really all over the place during this time. We experienced a lot of afternoon thunderstorms but were lucky not to be up in exposed areas during those, always having some tree coverage to duck into when it started up. This was such an incredibly beautiful area I just need to photo dump a little here:  As we headed north we came to Highway 108, down the road a few miles was Kennedy Meadows North Resort. Guthook’s guide showed that although they had hot showers and a small restaurant, our resupply...

Every step between Bishop and Red’s Meadow was absolutely perfect. Although there were many miles of steep climbing from one pass to the next, it was incredible and we would absolutely do this section again. This is what we’ve been hiking toward. Our pace would not beat any speed record through this area but we made it in 8 days back over Kearsarge Pass and over to Red’s Meadow to get off the trail in Mammoth Lakes for another resupply. The first day back on the trail after 6 days off, as you would imagine, was pretty difficult. We were carrying...

After climbing Mount Whitney we were pretty tired the next day. When we finally did wake up, pack up and head down to the river to get water for the day we saw our friend So Way and his girl Alison. The two of them know how to enjoy the trail and take it easy so we spent the morning just hanging out with them. We all got to talking about one of the most important conversations on the trail, what do you eat. We told them about our package with our cook pot not arriving back in Tehachapi and that...

One concern I had about this section of trial from Kennedy Meadows to Bishop was the altitude. We last lived in Crested Butte Colorado which has an elevation of just over 9,000 feet and this never seemed to bother Buddy when we first moved there. Dion and I experienced some headaches the first few weeks but adjusted and it subsided. We weren’t outside hiking 15+ miles when we lived there though and so the altitude was a bit of a concern for me. But, as always, Buddy was completely fine even on top of Mount Whitney the highest mountain in the lower 48 states. After one...

Here it is, the town we have all been waiting for! Well, maybe town isn’t the right word for this spot but we are here! There is water and grass everywhere and we are thrilled to have made it past the 700 mile mark and are still going strong! We left the trail at mile 702.4 and headed up the road into Kennedy Meadows, actually we skipped and sang a little song we made up the whole way- it was a real highlight of our trip so far! We were originally planning on staying with trail angel Tom, but we...
