Appalachian Trail -

Knowing What's Next

We have been on Long Island for a few days visiting family and friends, having a great time! We are all really enjoying the down time, the rest both physically and mentally and getting to do all the things that we’ve missed being on the trail. Cotton clothing, ample amounts of toilet paper and couch time are all things we are really enjoying! We aren’t having a hard time getting back into “real-life” because for us we know it is temporary.

We couldn’t imagine trying to settle down right now when we have the option to do anything we want with our lives. When we first left NY we sold most of our furniture and things that tied us to one spot so that we could have the freedom to travel without a lot of baggage. Now that we have successfully completed our first family adventure, we aren’t going to stop trying to check off all the things on our family bucket list. Thru hiking was the most amazing adventure we have ever been on, but for us it will be the first of many. We do not plan on buying a house and trying for that white picket fence “normal” dream, that’s not ours. No, we don’t want to send him to school so he can be like every other kid. Buddy is not like every other kid and has no desire to be so why should we stick him in a classroom for 8 hours a day and force him to be something we don’t want him to be? He is thriving in this lifestyle, is far from lacking in the social department but at the same time is not being forced to grow up too quickly. We never push him past his limits and as long as he’s enjoying it, we are going to keep traveling.

So with that being said, we are really excited to announce that we are going to be heading out to thru hike the PCT this year!

We are working like crazy to put this all together, but so far it’s going FANTASTIC! We are really excited about all the positive feedback we’ve gotten since we’ve finished the trail. If you or someone you know is interested in being part of our project you can contact us at info@buddybackpacker.com. We are looking to put together a small group of people to help us with the project, so if you are interested in hiking the PCT this year let us know!

Stay tuned, this is only the beginning for us. We hope to continue to inspire other families to get out there and try something different with your kids!
