Appalachian Trail -

These were very ordinary hiking days, uneventful but a welcomed change from the chaos that has surrounded our first 100 miles on trail. We were so glad to finally make it through a day without some kind of disaster and be able to go to bed with some peace of mind. We completed our hike both days and went to the park and library in Smithsburg. It’s amazing how Christian can hike 10 miles before 3pm and still have the energy to run us ragged at the park. We enjoyed these days and that parking lot on Wolfsville. We met a man...

Today we crossed the state line from WV to PA! Hopefully our good luck, karma, juju or whatever you want to call it continues. We are really enjoying our hiking time and are starting to get our hiking legs. We meet a little less than half way for lunch because Dion is so fast, hence the trail name Sonic he's been given. We’ve gotten a good system down for our food, we grill at night and make dinner and lunch for the next day and just eat fruit and dark chocolate in the morning. You can wrap any meat in...

Today we spent the entire day recuperating from yesterday’s happenings. We had gotten a bit off track but we're good now. After a full day of rest we found a guy selling ribs on the side of the road who hooked us up and helped remind us why we’re doing this hike. We also had some fantastic ribs. When you're physically tired its easier to become mentally exhausted and forget why you love this lifestyle so much. After a quick recharge of our internal batteries we are going to set back out, refreshed and ready.  Thank you rib man!

Tough day. Today started off well, we dropped Dion off at Baltimore National Pike early and parked the car back at the Old South Mountain Inn. We didn’t have far to go and it was another beautiful day. We all carry walkie talkies with us so we know when we’re getting close for lunch or close to the car marking the end of our day. I had been calling Dion on the walkie for a while but he wasn’t responding, nor was he at the parking lot when we got there. This could only mean something was wrong. Dion hikes...

Slack packing is making our thru hike so much easier, explaining it is the difficult part. We pick a spot with a parking lot at or very close to the trail we can leave our car for the day while we hike. We will use the same spot for a few days since we only go 6-12 miles a day and then move along to the next one. We pick somewhere that has the option of putting the tent up, we can sleep in our Jeep but it’s not ideal. All of our stuff stays in the car except the necessities for...
